Brave New Squirrel came together in Jim's childhood bedroom over a love of Bruce Springsteen songs. Only Anthony could play guitar, and only Tom knew the words. Mike programmed Jim's Radio Shack computer to play "chords" (actually just notes that played across a few octaves).

They rocked Mount Olive High School with their debut at the winter 1985 Showcase gig, followed it up later in the spring with their two-set Jerseyman Dance, and wrote a few originals for thier epic backyard party/concert in Aug 1985.

The boys kept the flame burning throughout college. Jim moved to bass; they jammed while back in Mount Olive during college breaks and on the occassional road trip to Troy, NY (where Anthony was studying at RPI). New originals were written; lyrics and akward tapes where traded via mail.

Brave New Squirrel finally fizzled out as the boys graduated from college and moved on into grad school, careers, and marriage. From those ashes would eventually emerge Jim's 4-track albums and bands like The Fords and alt.sex.dentist.

Brave New Squirrel included:

  • Tom Rosko: vocals, harmonica
  • Anthony Marchese: guitar, vocals
  • Jim Robertson: keyboard, then bass
  • Mike Weisman: bass
  • Greg Scanlon: drums
  • John Chapman: drums
